The Project: The project is to set up template of minimum 100 point of lay birds in every school with a population of 100 children and above, teach them how to to modern, hygienic and odour-free methods to care for poultry birds, fish and other livestock and sell the eggs to the school and other neighbouring schools at a subsidized rate. This aims to solve the above mentioned problems
1. Imparting basic practical agricultural skills to the Nigerian child instead of just lip service of going back to agriculture.

2. Do something tangible to bridge the critical protein gap as most other forms of protein are expensive (average N800/kg in a nation with N18,000 as minimum wage)

3. Improve health and confidence in the Nigerian child

4. Provide alternative source of income for youths, teachers and parents as they will all be encouraged to set up similar schemes wherever they can find space and ALL SUCH PRODUCED EGGS will be bought back by SEMEGEA COOPERATIVE to further enhance the system.

COST/RETURNS Each template of one hundred birds cost about N300,000 for the point of lay birds, battery cages, poultry house and feed till they start laying. The birds start laying within four weeks that the project is started and go on for about one year. SEMEGEA COOPERATIVE PRODUCES ITS OWN POULTRY FEED and projects with an input N700 worth of feed/day and 70% laying performance and egg selling at N18 per egg for sustainance and maintainance of the facility. The entire project will be insured with the Nigerian Agric Insurance Scheme.
